Some of the main problems concerning the mercuryarc converters feeding the guide magnet of the 7 Bev proton synchrotron are discussed. The duties of the convertor are discussed, with particular emphasis on the problems arising out of the interphase transformer cascade. The main elements of the control system are discussed; the grid control sets are considered separately as they represent a major portion of the control system. Finally, the various protective devices provided for the convertor installation are described. (auth)
