A new, technique for the simultaneous separation by gas chromatography and immediate assay of radioactivity of the separated vaporized components of radioactive labeled liquid state organic compounds is proposed. Helium, which carries the material to be separated through the column of gas chromatograph and thermal conductivity cell, is converted into a counting gas by the continuous injection of methane. The mixed hot stream of helium and methane then passes through an internal gas proportional flow counter of special design, which detects the radioactivity of the vaporized material carried. This new method should find a wide field of application for investigation of liquid state radioactive labeled organic compounds. The most important factors that aifect the accuracy and efficiency of this counting method at elevated temperature are discussed. (A.G.W.)
