INTRODUCTION: PSEUDOMONAS AERUGINOSA INFECTION AND ITS EFFECTS ON BIOLOGICAL AND MEDICAL RESEARCH

Journal Article · · Lab. Animal Care
OSTI ID:4680023
Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection interferes with radio, biological and other studies involving stress. It is also becoming a serious problem to medical clinicians. The promiscuous use of antibiotics is thought to be at least parily responsible for the prevalence of this infection. Other possible causes include the more frequent use of cortisone and ionizing radiations in medical practice, and the development of new disinfectants which are extremely effective against most bacteria but relatively ineffective against P. aeruginosa. This infection is also becoming of increasing importance to those concerned with the care and breeding of laboratory animals. Most, if not all rodent breeding colonies, are infected, but most seriously affected and apparently most susceptible are those colonies derived by cesarean section. (auth)
