MEASUREMENT OF THE $mu$$sup -$ CAPTURE RATE IN He$sup 3$

The rate was measured to an accuracy of a few percent, using high- pressure He/sup 3/ gas both as a target and as a scintillation detector for the recoil triton. The measured rate (average value, 1520 plus or minus 50 sec/sup -1/) agrees quite well with the 1450 sec/sup -1/ obtained on the basis of the universal Fermi interaction. (D.C.W.)
