ANALYTICAL METHOD FOR THE ABSORPTIOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF BORON IN ALUMINA POWDER

The alumina is dissolved under reflux in sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid. Boron is separated by distillation as methyl borate and determined absorptiometrically as rosocyanin. The range of the method as written is 0.2 to 3 ppm boron, but this may be extended by using a smaller sample. The standard deviation at the 0.5 ppm level is plus or minus 0.04 ppm. (auth)
