SOLID SOLUTIONS IN NaOH-NaH AND KOH-KH SYSTEMS (in Russian)

Pure hydrides are characterized by a sharply defined temperature at which thermal decomposition begins, 428 c- C for KH and 421 c- C for NaH. All hydrogen is released at these temperatures. The NaOH-- NaH system decomposes before meIting with more than 60% NaH in the mixture and the KOH--KH system likewise with more than 48% KH. Thermographs showed, with an increase in the concentration of the hydride, an increase in the melting temperature and a decrease in the temperature of polymorphic conversion of the initial hydroxides. Roentgen analysis showed formation of solid solutions. Peritectic diagrams show limited regions of solid solutions. Solid solutions are expected because NaOH above 299 c- C and KOR above 247 c- C are converted from alpha to beta modifications. At room temperature the region of homogeneity extends to 18% NaH in NaOH - NaH and to 14% KH in KOH--KH systems. The homogeneous region broadens with increase in the temperature. By dissolving hydrides in hydroxides, their thermal stability is increased markedly and the temperature region of their application is broadened to 500 to 550 c- C. (TTT)
