A solid Th concentrate may be recovered from an aqueous sulfuric-acid leach liquor obtained from a Thand phosphate-bearing ore by the addition of oxalic acid to the solution. By controlling the acid normality of the solution between 4 and 6.5 N with respect to sulfuric acid, and by controlling the molar proportion of oxalic acid to dissolved Th in the leach-liquor solution between 3: 1 and 5: 1, a precipitate containing a high yield of Th and a relatively low ratio of rare earths to Th is obtained.
