$beta$$-$$gamma$ CORRELATION AS A FUNCTION OF E*beta/ IN Ho$sup 16$$sup 6$ (in French)
The correlation between the beta transition in Ho/sup 166/(endpoint energy 1.77 Mev) and the ensuing gamma transition in the daughter Er/sup 168m/ (energy 80 kev) is found to be consistent with an assignment of O- to the ground state of Ho/sup 168/ and 2+ to the 80-kev Er/sup 166m/ state, if it is assumed that a perturbation factor G/sub 2/ is introduced as a result of the long lifetime of the intermediate 80-kev level in the cascade. A verification of the validity of the introduction of the perturbation factor is obtained by measuring the gamma - gamma correlation in the 1380 kev--80 kev cascade in Er/sup 166/, which cascade passes through the same intermediate state as the BETA - gamma cascade under study. A value of G/sub 2/ of 0.29 is found for the gamma - gamma cascade, as compared with G/sub 2/ = 0.28 for the BETA - gamma cascade. (T.F.H.)
