THE USE OF REFRACTORY METALS FOR ULTRA HIGH-TEMPERATURE THERMOCOUPLES

Journal Article · · Temp. Meas. Control Sci. Ind.
OSTI ID:4674551
The properties of refractory metal alloys for use in thermocouples capable of reliable operation at temperatures in the 3000 to 5000 deg F range and higher were investigated. The thermal emf of W-Mo and W-Re alloys relative to pure W is presented. For comparison the thermal emf of unalloyed refractory metal thermocouples are compared to Chromel-Alumel and Pt/Pt-Rh thermocouples. The W/W-26% Re thermocouples were found to be the most reliable.
