ROTATION VELOCITY OF A CYLINDRICAL LAYER OF PLASMA IN A CROSSED FIELD CONFIGURATION (in French)

Journal Article · · Compt. Rend.
OSTI ID:4674229

The electrodynamic forces that act on a cylindrical layer of plasma turning in a crossed-field configuration in the presence of neutral gas compensate the dissipation of energy from ion--neutral atom collisions on the walls at the layer boundary. A relation between the rotation velocity of the layer in the stationary state and some parameters such as the value of the magnetic field, the density of the neutral gas and of the plasma, and the current crossing the layer was deduced.
