Analytic expressions are derived for the transverse and azimuthal velocity distributions along the magnetic field for the ions, electrons, and neutral atoms in a plasma rotating in crossed fields. The anisotropy of the viscosity and the inertial forces are treated. The profiles of the velocities and the electric current density start to oscillate near the edges of the plasma and destabilization sets in as the magnetization increases. The calculated electric current density profiles agree with the measured results, and the longitudinal profiles of the forces, input energy density, and Joule and viscous dissipation are analyzed. A formula for the critical rotational velocity is derived from the calculated distribution of the input energy.
