DYNAMICS OF THE BIOELECTRIC ACTIVITY OF RABBIT BRAIN IN SHORT-WAVE ULTRAVIOLET IRRADIATION (in Russian)

A study was made to determine the brain bioelectric activity under the in fluence of ultraviolet irradiation, especially the reactions taking place directly in the irradiation process. Twenty rabbits were whole-body-irradiated with 1000 to 5000 mu w.min/cm/sup 2/ for 10 min. There were changes in the electroencephalogram immedrately and for a time after the irradiation. The most regular change was a decrease in the amplitude of the bioelectric activity. The phase of biopotential exaltation observed by others with penetrating radiation occurred only in direct irradiation of the exposed brain, and the decrease in the biopotential amplitude was less than that described. There was also an increase in the processes of distance synchronization in the electroencephalogram and a change in the frequency spectrum, although the latter was less definite. The data showed that irradiation at 5000 and 3800 mu w.min/cm/sup 2/ caused a timely and reversible but significant change in the electroencephalogram, usually in all symptoms studied. With 2000 and 1000 mu w.min/cm/sup 2/, these changes were not observed visually but were seen only with mathematical analysis. (TTT)
