A GLOBAL PILE OSCILLATOR FOR THE ROSSENDORF RESEARCH REACTOR (in German)

Journal Article · · Kernenergie (East Germany)
OSTI ID:4674029
A pile oscillator is described, which is installed in the Rossendorf Research Reactor (RFR). A hydraulic oscillation arrangement moves the sample periodically between the center and edge of the fission zone with a frequency of 0.05 Hz. The electronic measurement arrangement, at a reactor power of 500 w, possesses a sensitivity of plus or minus 10/sup -7/. This sensitivity could only be increased by an efficient drift elimination system, which on the basis of the frequent 2-Mw operation of the RFR sets no poison equilibrium at lower powers. For absorption-cross-section measurements, a sensitivity of plus or minus 0.25 mm/sup 2/ was achieved. (tr-auth)
