DETERMINATION OF URANIUM IN ORGANIC SOLVENTS

A method for the determination of U in tributyl phosphate -kerosene extracts, which are formed during the extraction of U, is described. The U content of the organic solution is determined approximately by density measurement. A suitable amount of solution is then pipetted into a 50-ml separatory funnel and treated with a solution of 20% tributyl phosphate and 80% kerosene. For back extraction of the U, 20 ml 2N H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/ and 20 g granulated Cd are shaken 3 min and separated into two phases. The determination of U follows in the aqueous phase as U(SO/sub 4/)/sub 2/ or with Na/sub 2/CO/sub 3/-NaOH-H/sub 2/O/sub 2/. For very dilute solutions, a spectrophotometric determination of U directly in the organic tributyl phosphate -kerosene extraction solution with dibenzoylmethane is suggested. (Uranium Abstr.
