>The content of SH-groups has been studied in three fractions of soluble proteins isolated from the nuclei of the liver cells of rats before, and 30 min. and 24, 48, and 72 hr after irradiation with doses of 1500 r. Thirty minutes after irradiation the content of SH-groups in the globulins fell on the average by 30%, and in the diphosphopyridine nucleotide (DPN) by 44%. It has been suggested that inactivation of the SH-groups of the nuclear proteins may play an essential role in the mechanism of the antimitotic action of ionizing radiation. (auth)
