A review of the program of work on thermionic converters is presented. A parallel-plane cesium converter having an emitter of niobium carbide and a collector of molybdenum was operated. Comparison was made between its operation and that of a similar converter having a cathode of polycrystalline tungsten. The power output of the niobium carbide converter was considerably lower than with tungsten. (auth)
