ABSORBED DOSE IN BIOLOGICAL SPECIMENS IRRADIATED EXTERNALLY WITH COBALT-60 GAMMA RADIATION

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4670079
The average absorbed dose and the maximum and minimum absorbed dose received by biological specimens of varying size, irradiated laterally with a known exposure dose of Co/sup 60/ gamma radiation measured in air at the midline was investigated experimentally. Spheres and cylinders covering a range of sizes, filled with ferrous sulfate dosimeter, were exposed to Co/sup 60/ gamma radiation to determine the average dose. Maximum and minimum doses were measured using small plastic vials of dosimeter. The data obtained are considered valid for Co/sup 60/ in many exposure situations commonly encountered in radiobiology.
