INELASTIC SCATTERING FROM SOME RARE-EARTH ISOTOPES OF LOW ABUNDANCE

Journal Article · · Nuclear Physics (Netherlands) Divided into Nucl. Phys. A and Nucl. Phys. B
The reduced E2 transition probability and the excitation energy of the first rotational level in the isotopes of Nd/sup 150/, Dy/sup 156/, Dy/sup 158/, Er/sup 162/, Yb/sup 168/ and Hf/sup 174/ were measured by means of Coulomb excitation. The measurements were performed on the inelastically scattered protons or deuterons, which were recorded in a heavy-particle spectrograph. The results are discussed in terms of the rotational model, and the ground-state deformations derived from experiment are compared to the calculations of Bes and Szymanski. The rotational character of the first 2/sup +/ levels in the four stable N = 90 nuclei is briefly discussed in the light of recent data from other experiments. (auth)
