IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO SERVICING MACHINES FOR NUCLEAR REACTORS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4667734
A servicing machine for loading and unloading reactor fuel elements is patented. The reactor has a pressurized reaction vessel provided with a number of standpipes through which fuel elements and auxiliary equipment may be passed. The servicing machine consists of a connection leading from a pressure vessel and a tubular conduit stracture in fluid-tight connection with, and universally jointed to, the connection. The conduit can be extended or contracted, and the end remote from the pressure vessel is adapted to engage and seal with a standpipe on the reactor. Means for moving the servicing machine along the face of the reactor, extending and contracting the conduit, and sealing the conduit to the reactor standpipe are described in detail. (M.P.G.)
