IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO NUCLEAR REACTOR FUEL ELEMENT CHARGING ARRANGEMENTS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4148559
A nuclear reactor loading tube receivable by a standpipe through the reactor pressure vessel includes a pair of coaxial sleeves movable axially relative to one another. A guide tube is pivotally coupled to one sleeve, and a coupling member is pivotally coupled to the guide tube and to the other sleeve. Means are provided to cause relative axial movement of the sleeves to angularly displace the guide tube about its pivoted connection with the sleeve. The coupling member, the guide tube, and the sleeve to which the guide tube is coupled together form a tubular passage when the guide tube, sleeve, and coupling member are coaxial. The sleeve to which the coupling member is pivotally connected is extended below the pivot by a rigid part provided at its free end with a head, formed to engage and center with the opening of a given fuel channel served by the standpipe. Means are provided to ensure that the loading tube is gas tight. (A.G.W.)
