A STUDY OF THE NEUTRON-DEFICIENT ISOTOPES OF Lu ON A PRISM SPECTROMETER WITH QUADRUPOLE LENSES (in Russian)
A lutetium fraction was separated from a tantalum target irradiated with 660-Mev protons for a period of two hours. A large-prism materials at spectrometer with quadrupole lenses gave good resolution of the conversion electrons because of the large soiid angle and high dispersion at a small source height. The L/sub I/:L/sub II/:L/sub III/ ratio for the 181,6-kev transition in Lu/sup 172/ was 0.57:1,21;1, and indicated an E2 transition. The 203.4-kev transition went to the first level of the upper rotational band, and the L/sub II/:L/sub III/ ratio indicated an E2 transition. The 269.8-kev transition from the 2075kev level to the 1805-kev level indicated an Ml multipolarity with a small admixture of E2(<10%) from the L/sub I/-L/sub II/ ratio of intensities = 1:1.15. The 191.4-kev transition in Lu/sup 169/ was found to have an M1 multipolarity with an E2 admixture of <15%, as determined from measurements of the internal conversion electrons on the materials at spectrometer with quadrupole lenses. The energy of this transition was 191,25 surface proces 0.08 kev. (TTT)
