MAGNETO-ACOUSTIC OSCILLATIONS IN A CYLINDRICAL PLASMA COLUMN

A radial low frequency oscillation in a cylindrical plasma column located in a homogeneous axial magnetic field was observed. A theory for radial magneto-acoustic waves in a plasma of finite conductivity is developed and applied to the experiment. The temperature and conductivity of the plasma can be determined from the frequency and damping of the waves. (auth)
