GALACTOSE MUTATIONS OF ESCHERICHIA COLI K-12 NOT AMENABLE TO LAMBDA TRANSDUCTION

Journal Article · · Genetics (U.S.)
OSTI ID:4663322
Four galactose mutants not amenable to lambda transduction were analyzed genetically and biochemically. Two of the mutants, and possibly a third, are double mutants for a gene in the Gal operon and for a gene whose function was not identified. The fourth mutant did not have a defect in kinase, transferase, or epimerase, and must therefore have a genetic lesion outside the Gal operon. The gene not identified may be for the enzyme pyrophosphorylase. This gene is not transduced by lambda. (auth)
