DEVELOPMENT OF PLUTONIUM-BEARING FUEL MATERIALS. Monthly Progress Letter, July 1963

Progress is reported on developments in the preparation of PuO/sub 2/ and UO/sub 2/, for the fabrication of mechanically mixed and coprecipitated fuel materials. Data are tabulated for conditions of PuO/sub 2/ preparation by the continuous oxalate process, and for process conditions for coprecipitation of UO/ sub 2/--0.5 wt% PuO/sub 2/. A discussion is included of the additive effects of strontium carbonate on the sinterability of PuO/sub 2/, and SiO/sub 2/ on the sinterability of the mixed oxides. (B.O.G.)
