PROTON-DEUTERON SCATTERING AT 77 Mev

Journal Article · · Nuclear Physics (Netherlands) Divided into Nucl. Phys. A and Nucl. Phys. B
>The Oxford 12-cm deuterium bubble chamber was used to examine the reactions p + d yields p + d, p + d yields p + p + n, at an incident proton energy of 77 Mev. The total cross section (excluding elastic scattering below 10 deg cm) is found to be 146 plus or minus 8 mb. The elastic differential cross section, measured over the angular range 5 to 180 deg (cm) is compared with the impulse approximation theory. The low statistical accuracy of the experiment does not allow a detailed examination of the inelastic events to be made, but some general features are discussed. Chew-Low extrapolations were performed to determine the free p-p and n-p cross sections. (auth)
