POSITIVE TEMPERATURE COEFFICIENTS AND SATURATION OF LUMINESCENCE OF ZnS SINGLE CRYSTALS USING EXCITATION BY ELECTRONS
>The influence of temperature and intensity on the luminescence of ZnS single crystals in various emission bands after excitation with 60-kev electrons is studied. The luminescence yield of the green and blue emission bands increases for increasing temperatures, reaches a maximum, and decreases at high temperature. The yield is independent of excitation intensity in the region of negative temperature coefficients. For positive temperature coefficierts the yield is inversely proportional to the square root of the intensity. A theoretical explanation of this effect using Riehl-Schoen theory is given. The saturation of luminescence is studied. The results indicate that for ZnS no real saturation effect exists. (Gmelin Inst.)
