RADIOGENIC KERATOACANTHOSIS: CONTRIBUTION TO SO-CALLED PSEUDOREACTIVATION AFTER X IRRADIATION (in German)

Journal Article · · Z. Haut-Geschlechtskrankh.
OSTI ID:4657011
The case history is cited of a 62-yr-old woman who developed acanthosis and skin malignancy apparently as a result of radiotherapy for a benign dermatologic condition. Two and a half yr before the malignant lesion was noted, an eczematous lesion in the giuteal region was irradiated with 450 r. Biopsy of the resulting 4 x 6 cm acanthotic lesion showed an infiltrating basal cell carcinoma on one border. Treatment of the tumor with 3900-r irradiation resulted in an ulcer which healed successfully, with apparent eradication of the malignant cells and without reactivation of acanthosis. From a review of similar cases in the literature, it is concluded that the term radiogenic keratoacanthosis is applicable to lesions resembling that observed here and resulting from radiation. (BBB)
