STUDY OF NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTING USING A 15 Mev INDUSTRIAL BETATRON

A 15-Mev industrial betatron for nondestructive inspection was examined for some basic characteristics of the high energy x-ray beams generated in the apparatus and for some techniques of photographing. An ionization chamber and various kinds of films were used for measurements. First, the energy spectrum, half value layer for iron, and effective energy, for the x-ray beams were determined. Moreover, the intensifying indexes and the sensitivity for defects were determined for various kinds of photographing methods and the conditions and mutual relations between them are discussed. Also, practical exposure charts for the betatron were determined. (P.C.H.)
