DESIGN DATA STUDY FOR COATED COLUMBIUM ALLOYS. Bimonthly Technical Progress Report No. 5, August 21, 1962 through October 21, 1962

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4652367
The design data study of Pfaudler and TRW protective coated 30 mil Fansteel 85 alloy sheet is in progress. Specimen designs and preparation, coating application techniques and evaluation test procedures are presented. Cyclic oxidation tests in air at 1600 to 2600 deg F were conducted. Tensile properties of FS-85 alloy sheet were determined uncoated in vacuum and coated in air from room temperature to 2600 deg F. Tentative results are reported of the prestrain tolerance of the two coatings on FS-85 alloy sheet at various temperatures and the resultant effect on oxidation protection at 1600 and 2800 deg F. Stress rupture properties of coated FS-85 alloy are being determined in air at temperatures from 1600 to 2600 deg F and tentative results are presented. (auth)
