METHOD AND DEVICE FOR CHARGING A NUCLEAR REACTOR ABOARD A SHIP WITH FUEL ELEMENTS
The ship described has a propulsion plant which includes a nuclear reactor, in which the reactor is accommodated in the forward part of the ship and has an outer housing provided with an opening which is closed by a removable cover so that, after removal of the cover, the fuel elements can be introduced and removed through the said opening. The method for servicing the said nuclear reactor comprises running the forward part of the ship beyond its front reactor screen into a chamber screened from the outside, and removing the bow of the ship together with the front screen and the cover of the reactor housing so that fuel elements can be introduced to or removed from the nuclear reactor.
