THE RELATIVE BIOLOGICAL EFFECTIVENESS OF 22-Mevp X-RAYS, COBALT-60 GAMMA RAYS, AND 200-kvep X-RAYS. VIII. DETERMINED BY THE GROWTH CAPACITY OF TUMOR CELLS IN VITRO

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4646949

A determination of the RBE of Co/sup 60/ gamma rays and 22-Mevp x rays versus 200-Kvcp x rays was made with growth capacity of Ehrlich ascites tumor cells in vitro as the biological test object. A series of 7 experiments, in which the growth was scored at 4 days after irradiation and compared to the growth of the nonirradiated controls, was conducted. The RBE values were derived from the slopes of the response curves for each individual experiment. The average RBE's are 0.86 for Co/sup 60/ gamma rays versus 200-Kvcp x rays; 0.86 for 22-Mevp x rays versus 200-Kvcp x rays, and 1.03 for 22-Mevp x rays versus Co/ sup 60/ gamma rays. (auth)
