Bremsstrahlung in high energy electron-electron scattering with consideration of a structure of electrons (in German)

The Bethe-Heitler formula was always considered adequate for the calculation of the bremsstrahlung of an electron in the field of a second electron. This represents the result of old perturbation calculations in which point particles are taken as a basis. The experiments carried out recently with very high energies gave indications, however, of the presence of a so-called structure that calls for particles with finite, but small, expansion. For the calculation of the bremsstrahlung at high energy of such structureaffected particles, the Weizsacker-Williams method was used so that it was possible to introduce the structure of a charged particle into the calculation. Reference is made to work of Logar and Urban in which the structure-affected charged particles were replaced by their field and these were converted by a Fourier transformation into photons of a suitable energy distribution. These photons then collide with a second congruous electron with the same structure. The effective cross section for the bremsstrahlung results from the effective cross section for the Compton effect, multiplied by the number of equivalent photons, and integrated over the energy of the incident photons. The effective cross section contains three terms: the first corresponds to the point charge (the result agrees with the Bethe-Heitler formula), the second considers the structure of the electron at rest, and the third corresponds to the structure of a high-energy incident electron.
