The thermodynamics of the formation of gaseous heavy metal chlorides and the feasibility of the extraction of the metals, particularly of uranium, in chloride form from lowgrade ores was investigated. Measurement was made of the equilibria between chlorine gas, UO/sub 2/Cl/sub 2/ gas, and solid U/sub 3/O/sub 8/ or UO/sub 2/ at 1000 to 1100 deg C. (Rev. Metal Lit., 20: No. 8, Aug. 1983)
