DECONTAMINATION EXPERIENCE WITH HIGH-TEMPERATURE IN-REACTOR TEST LOOPS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4629434
The Hanford KER-2, 3, and 4 Loops were decontaminated successfully with the following process: (1) organic filmconditioning solution, (2) nitric acid neutralizing rinse, (3) alkaline permanganate solution, (4) water rinses, (5) nitric acid solution, and (6) water rinses. Radioactivity levels before and after decontamination are given for various loop locations. The process was modified to reduce the reactor down-time: (1) alkaline permanganate solution, (2) water rinses, (3) acidic rinse, and (4) water rinses. The KER-2 Loop was decontaminated successfully using this modified process with a bisulfate and a suifamate acidic rinse. Precautions to be taken in the decontamination are described. (D.L.C.)
