ABSOLUTE CROSS-SECTIONS FOR SOME (n,p), (n,/cap alpha/), AND (n,2n) REACTIONS

Journal Article · · Nuclear Physics (Netherlands) Divided into Nucl. Phys. A and Nucl. Phys. B
The reactions Al/sup 27/(n, alpha )Na/sup 24/, Mg/sup 24/(n,p)Na/sup 24/ , Si/sup 2 8/(n,p)Al/sup 26/, o/sup 59/(n alpha )Mn/sup 58/, Ni/sup 58(n,p)Co/ sup 58/, and Ni/sup 58/(n,2n)Ni/sup 57/ were studied by an activation method from 12.5 to 21.0 Mev neutron energy. A method of calibrating well-type crystals to obtain absolute efficiency is described. The results for absolute cross sections obtained by this method for the above reactions are compared with statistical model calculations in which the nuclear transmission coefficients were derived from an average optical potential extracted from the scattering data.
