Performance and efficiency measurements of PV devices

Journal Article · · Advances in Solar Energy

This chapter presents a summary of photovoltaic (PV) performance rating methods and procedures. Recent advances in PV rating methods for determining the performance of a PV cell, module, or array with respect to standard reporting conditions are summarized. Work at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and elsewhere in quantifying and reducing the total uncertainty in PV performance measurements are discussed. Several examples of anomalous current vs. voltage (I-V) behavior are presented. Large differences in the efficiency have been observed using established single-junction I-V measurement procedures. Multi-junction measurement procedures and equipment are also discussed. 74 refs., 20 figs., 12 tabs.
