Synthesis of new rare-earth carboxylate complexes

Complexes with 2-butenolide (L) are known only for d elements, e.g., copper(I). The authors have prepared complexes of rare-earth elements [Pr(III), Nd(III), and Sm(III)] with L. According to elemental analysis and TGA, the complexes have the composition LnLCl{sub 2}{center_dot}2H{sub 2}O. The composition and structure of these compounds have been studied by electronic and IR spectroscopy.
