Solvent effects on the photochromic reactions of diarylethene derivatives

Journal Article · · Journal of Physical Chemistry
OSTI ID:456985

This paper investigates the photochromic reactions of diarylethene with heterocyclic rings and electron-with-drawing substituents in various organic solvents. The photoinduced ring-closure process and the fluorescence properties are strongly depend on solvent polarity. This paper attempts to solve the problem of environmental effects on the reaction pathway in connection with the geometries of the excited state molecules.
