This is the fourteenth Quarterly Status Report of work under AEC Contract AT(04-3)-400 and the eighth Quarterly Status Report of work under AEC Contract AT(04-3)-515, both held by Stanford University. Contract AT(04-3)-400 provides for the construction of the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC), a laboratory that will have as its chief instrument a two-mile-long linear electron accelerator. Construction of the Center began in June 1962, and the present schedule calls for first turn-on of the electron beam in the summer of 1966. The principal beam parameters of the accelerator in its initial operating phase are a maximum beam energy of 20 BeV, and an average beam current of 30 microamperes (at 10% beam loading). The estimated construction cost of SLAC is $114,000,000.
