Deformation and the search for shape coexistence in odd-mass neutron-deficient iridium isotopes: Studies of the {beta}{sup +}/EC-decay of {sup 183}Pt and {sup 181}Pt

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:451185

The low-energy structures of {sup 183}Ir and {sup 181}Ir have been studied through the radioactive decay of {sup 183}Pt and {sup 181}Pt, respectively. The {sup 183}Pt sources were produced indirectly by the heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reactions {sup 175}Lu({sup 16}O,8n) and {sup 181}Ta({sup 12}C,10n). The {sup 181}Pt sources were produced indirectly by the reaction {sup 175}Lu({sup 16}O,10n) at a beam energy of 175 MeV. The {sup 183}Pt and {sup 181}Pt decays were studied using {gamma}-{gamma}-t and {gamma}-e-t coincidence spectroscopy, and {gamma}-singles multiscaled spectroscopy. For {sup 183}Ir, a level scheme consisting of 32 levels and 48 transitions has been constructed. All transitions for which electron data was measurable were found to have conversion coefficients consistent with either an E1 multipolarity or some combination of M1 and/or E2 multipolarities. No evidence for highly-converted transitions was found in the electron data.
