Circular dichroism of optically active isotropic media of chiral molecules Im({ital n}{sub +}{minus}{ital n}{sub {minus}})/Im({ital n}{sub +}+{ital n}{sub {minus}}) falls off as {omega}{sup {minus}2} at frequencies {ital Ry}{lt}{omega}{lt}{ital Z}{sup 2}{ital Ry} and as {omega}{sup {minus}3} at {omega}{gt}{ital Z}{sup 2}{ital Ry}, where {ital Z} is a typical nuclear charge of atoms in the chiral group. The contribution of the spin of electron to the circular dichroism appears in the second order in spin-orbit perturbation only. The polarization of photoelectrons in the absorption of unpolarized light is connected with the chirality of molecule and constitutes {ital Z}{sup 2}{alpha}{sup 3} from the degree of geometrical asymmetry. {copyright} {ital 1996 American Institute of Physics.}
