The hearing of the subcommittee on energy and power addressed natural gas regulation. The hearing focussed on two significant Federal and State changes in natural gas regulation and their impact on consumers, especially captive residential consumers. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has issued FERC`s Order 636 which seeks to increase competition in the industry and increase options for gas buyers. Witnesses expressed concern that the implementations of this FERC order might be counter-productive. Statement of government and industry officials are included along with statements and exhibits submitted for the record.
