Role of Ba-site Pr in quenching superconductivity of Y{sub 1{minus}{ital y}}Pr{sub {ital y}}Ba{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub {ital x}} and related materials

The depression of the superconducting transition temperature with increasing Pr content {ital y} in Y{sub 1{minus}{ital y}}Pr{sub {ital y}}Ba{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub {ital x}} (for {ital x}{approx}7) is ascribed primarily to the breaking of Cooper pairs {ital in} {ital chain} {ital layers} by Ba-site Pr{sup +3}.
