Progress is reported on the following research projects: incision of DNA by endonucleases specific for uv-irradiated DNA in Escherichia coli; isolation, characterization, and identification of uv-endonuclease as a gene product; biological assay for repair of uv-irradiated DNA of M X 174 phage; removal of pyrimidine dimers from incised uv-irradiated DNA by DNA polymerase, and reinsertion of nucleotides into cavities in DNA strands created by excision.
