Variations in LD/sub 50/30/ in a strain of rats over 20 years

Conference ·
OSTI ID:4422703

From eighteenth Health Physics Society meeting; Miami Beach, Florida, USA (17 Jun 1973). The LD/sub 50/30/ has been determined periodically for NEDH rats, male and female, from 1953 to 1973, exposed to x radiation doses ranging from 710 to 905 R. The mean was 801 R. There was no significant seasonal variation. The general health of the colony was an important factor. The advent of infection reduced somewhat the LD/sub 50/30/, while long-term exposure of the colony- to infection increased this dose level slightly and gave some protection against hematopoietic damage.
