Induction of rough colony mutants in Saccharomyces cerevisiae by high doses of uv light

From international conference on the bases of the biological effects of ultraviolet radiation; Brno, Czechoslovakia (2 Oct 1972). Ultraviolet radiation induced rough mutants in some strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Test crosses of smooth cells isolated from the rough mutants were suppressed rough mutants. Four isolated suppressed roughs were unstable and formed rough colonies in frequencies of 1 to 5% during vegetative growth. About 30% of suppressed roughs recovered rough phenotypes in a medium containing lactate instead of sugar. (HLW)
