From fifth international conference on internal friction and ultrasonic attenuation in crystalline solids; Aachen, Germany (27 Aug Relations between internal friction and conventional mechanical testing were examined by carrying out load-- unload tests in the compression mode at strain sensitivities of approximately 10/sup -6/. These microyield tests were performed at temperatures in the range 77 to 295 deg K on tantalum single crystals having a range of impurity concentrations and crystallographic orientations. Different dislocation distributions were studted by prestraining the specimens and two impurity concentrations are presented. (GE)
