$gamma$-radiolysis of LiF

Data are reported of optical absorption, magnetic susceptibility, mass, and mass density measurements, which were carried out on gamma -irradiated single crystals of lithium flouride. The results show that the radiation damage in the gamma -irradiated samples is strikingly similar to that in the neutron- irradiated specimens. A quantitative observation, however, reveals differences that give experimental evidence for the statement that the F-centres occur in a more aggregated form in the gamma- than in the neutron-irradiated crystals.
