Nitrogen oxides (NO and NO{sub 2}) significantly contribute to acid rain and photo-chemical smog. NO itself is not an irritant, but can react with haemoglobin to form methaemoglobin. On the contrary, NO{sub 2} is an irritant gas and causes pulmonary edema and exudative inflammation. The threshold limit values are 25 ppm for NO and 3 ppm for NO{sub 2}. Since NO emitted from combustion systems readily transforms to NO{sub 2}, detection and control of NO{sub 2} are also receiving major attention. WO{sub 3} material is considered as one of the best candidates for this purpose. Previous experiments highlight that the thermally evaporated thin film exhibits a high sensitivity to low concentration NO{sub 2} in the 0.2-5.0 ppm range. This work is aimed at an further investigation of cross-sensitivity and stability of the sensor under an operation condition.
