The actions of the chemical radiation protection may be classified into two groups: physico-(radio)-chemical and metabolic radiation protective effect mechanisms. As physico-chemical radiation protection is understood: development of hypoxia and anoxia, development of mixed disulfide, chemical modification of the DNA target, and H-transmission. As metabolic radiation protective effects (biochemical shock, release or activation of endogenous radiation protective substances, fixation of metal ions, establishment of more resistant cell- physiological status, promotion of the development of restitutive processes on cellular level or on the level of cell populations) are understood: increase of the radiation resistance due to physiological and biochemical changes elicited in the biological objects by means of radiation protective influences or processes.
